Indian tourist has 'gold necklace stolen by two transgender prostitutes' in Pattaya
An Indian tourist reportedly had his gold necklace worth 5,000 USD stolen by two aggressive ladyboys in Thailand.
Hemanth Kumar, 27, was walking back to his hotel when he was approached by a pair of sex workers in an empty alley in the Thai 'Sin City' Pattaya on August 5.
The scantily clad transgender women were said to have pressed their bodies against Hemanth while persistently offering their services.
Hemanth said he ran away as the touchy sex workers kept trying to hug and grope him - only to then hire another ladyboy near closer to his hotel instead.
He took a shower to prepare for a steamy encounter. However, while stripping his clothes, he discovered that his 150,000 baht jewellery had vanished from his neck. He rushed out of the bathroom to look for it and found that the ladyboy had also disappeared without a trace.
Police Lieutenant Kriangkrai Kaewpipop of the Pattaya City Police Station said Hemanth filed a report at around 2:36 am.
He said: 'We sent a radio message to patrolmen to intercept the suspects based on the tourist's description, but they have not been found.
‘However, we do not completely believe the victim as his testimony was inconsistent. We dispatched investigators to gather evidence and collect security camera footage to verify whether the incident really occurred.
‘If we find that the incident was fabricated, he will be charged with filing a false report. If the story is true, we will track down the culprits for further legal action.'
The depraved resort town, notorious for its racy nightlife, has long grappled with petty crime involving opportunistic sex workers targeting foreign tourists.
On July 15, American tourist Hysam Moustafa Saber was reportedly attacked by two transgender prostitutes who tried to steal the wallet from his pocket.
A day later, three sex workers stole money from a disabled British tourist who hired them for sex in the same resort town.
The trio allegedly made off with 6,000 baht in local currency and 150 pounds in British notes while Chris John Glennon, 60, shuffled into the shower as he prepared expectantly for a wild night on July 16. The tourist was horrified when he emerged and the room was bare with some of his money missing.
Tourists are regularly attacked or caught up in crime, leading Pattaya to be dubbed 'Sin City'.
Embarrassed officials in the central government have launched tourism initiatives to attract families and rebrand Pattaya as a safe destination.
Authorities have also introduced safety measures, such as improved lighting and CCTV.
Despite some success in cleaning up the town's image, alcohol and sex remain its biggest draws, often leading to a high rate of crime and accidents.
