CANAKKALE, TÜRKİYE - AUGUST 12: Turkish firefighting teams continued their efforts for a second day to contain a forest fire in the Kepez district of Canakkale province, with dramatic drone images revealing the extent of the scorched terrain at dawn on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

The blaze, which erupted in the forested Dardanos area for undetermined reasons, prompted a large-scale response, including firefighting crews, forest service vehicles, and aerial support. Authorities deployed multiple aircraft and ground teams to combat the flames.

At least 77 people suffering from smoke inhalation were hospitalized, while 2,090 residents from high-risk zones were evacuated by land and sea as a precaution. Several buildings were damaged as flames spread, with locals joining efforts by using water tankers to assist firefighting teams.

Canakkale Governor Omer Toraman provided updates via social media platform X, stating:
"Ground operations in Cinarlı continued uninterrupted overnight. At daybreak, seven planes and six helicopters began intensive aerial firefighting. Currently, there is no immediate danger to residential areas, and all teams are working to fully control the blaze."

The Canakkale-Ezine highway, temporarily closed and restricted to single-lane traffic, has since reopened.
