Villages were swamped with floodwater as the Ganges River overflowed in India.

Heavy downpour in the catchment areas of Nepal has caused a significant rise in the water levels of major rivers, including the Ganga, Bagmati, Kosi, Punpun, and Ghaghra, which are now flowing above danger level in several regions.

Footage shows locals including children wading through the inundated streets in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on Tuesday, August 12.

Floodwaters have reportedly swept away hundreds of homes, displaced livestock, and destroyed crops.

At least two residents, a mother and her daughter, tragically died in the flood, with reports stating the mum was trying to save her child from drowning.

Relief camps have been established to accommodate displaced villagers. Community kitchens are distributing dry ration packets and polythene sheets to those affected.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reported that boats have been deployed across flood-hit districts, with boat ambulances offering medical assistance.
