Winnie the Pooh tiger mascot faints from heat at Disneyland in China
A Winnie the Pooh tiger mascot collapsed from the heat at Disneyland in China.
Theme park staff and guests surrounded the unconscious performer, who was wearing a thick tiger-print jumpsuit and headpiece, lying on the pavement amid 35 degrees Celsius heat in Shanghai.
Footage shows concerned visitors extending handheld mini electric fans, while others waved wooden fans toward the mascot on August 7.
Despite the ordeal and strict uniform regulations, the crew did not remove the headpiece, leaving the performer in the full suit, suffering from the heat.
The actor was reportedly taken to the infirmary in a wheelchair after several minutes of waiting for medics and was later transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Some tourists criticised the park's regulations, saying the rules were too rigid and could endanger lives to maintain character integrity and guest immersion.
Shanghai Disneyland management issued a statement following the incident, saying that they pledged to adjust performance arrangements on a rolling basis according to weather warnings and actual conditions.
They added: 'Measures include reducing the scale of float parades, limiting outdoor scheduling time, and prioritising the safety of cast and crew while ensuring a positive guest experience.'
The Central Meteorological Bureau reported that mainland China has experienced extreme heat since the start of summer this year.
Data from the National Early Warning Information Release Centre showed that high-temperature warning messages increased by 40 per cent compared to the same period last year, with more than 20,000 heat alerts issued.
Local media reported that North China, Huanghuai, and Northwest China have been hit by prolonged high temperatures and humid conditions, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius across the regions.
