US: Rocket Exhaust Mistaken For Meteor Over Upstate New York
United States - August 12, 2025 Upstate New York, USA – A striking video recorded by X user Apocalypse Bait shows the exhaust plume from United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket launch on August 12, 2025, as seen in the night sky over upstate New York. The launch, conducted from Cape Canaveral as part of the USSF-106 mission, featured ULA’s powerful rocket equipped with four solid boosters, delivering immense thrust. The mission reached more than 22,000 miles above Earth, marking a significant display of space technology. The plume’s appearance coincided with the Perseid meteor shower, leading many observers to initially mistake it for a meteor streaking across the atmosphere. Apocalypse Bait wrote: “Watching the peak of Perseids from my deck and caught this gem. Found out later it was the exhaust plume from United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket, launched from Cape Canaveral tonight.”
