Modesto, United States - August 11, 2025 Firefighters came to the aid of a feral kitten entangled in a soccer net at a home on Fordham Avenue in Modesto. Residents had discovered the small animal trapped in the backyard netting and called for assistance. When firefighters from Station 4 arrived, they found the kitten still tightly wrapped in about 10 inches of netting, despite residents’ attempts to free it by cutting the net. Using blunt-tipped trauma shears, rescuers carefully cut through the net while keeping the frightened feline calm. The Modesto Fire Department noted on social media that the animal was freed without injury, and the firefighters themselves remained safe. Battalion Chief Jim Black said the kitten ran off immediately after being rescued. The department added that while Station 4 typically handles hazardous materials incidents, rescuing an entangled animal was a welcome addition to their list of specialties.
