Journalists in Sweden protest Israel’s killing of colleagues in Gaza

VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS GATHERING AT MEDBORGARPLATSEN SQUARE IN STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / PROTERSTERS DELIVERING SPEECHES DURING PROTEST / PROTESTERS HOLDING BANNERS, PALESTINIAN FLAGS STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - AUG. 14, 2025: Journalists gathered in the Swedish capital Stockholm on Thursday, Aug. 14, to protest Israel’s killing of their colleagues in Gaza and to honor the memory of slain media workers.
The demonstration, organized by the Swedish Journalists’ Federation, was held at Medborgarplatsen Square, where participants commemorated Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif and other journalists killed in Israeli attacks on the besieged enclave.
Carrying banners reading “Stop supporting the killing of journalists” and “You kill journalists when you know they are telling the truth,” protesters also wore T-shirts with the slogan “Stop killing journalists.”
Gaza's Media Office said the death toll for journalists has risen to 238 since the start of Israel's war on Gaza in late 2023.
Israel is facing mounting condemnation for its genocidal war on Gaza, where it has killed nearly 61,700 victims since October 2023.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
