Kodaikanal: Forest Department Rescues Wild Gaur from 50-foot Well
A wild gaur, locally known as "Kurinji Aadu", was rescued after falling into a 50-foot-deep open well on private land near a temple in Kodaikanal. The rescue operation, which took nearly four hours, involved the Forest Department and Fire Services, with the help of a JCB vehicle.
The gaur, which had been straying into residential areas in the Kodaikanal hills in recent days, accidentally fell into the well after a tin sheet collapsed beneath it. The animal suffered minor injuries, including bleeding wounds, but was safely rescued alive by tying a rope around its horns and carefully lifting it out.
The Forest Department has urged property owners in and around Kodaikanal to ensure that open wells are properly covered to prevent such incidents in the future.
