Guwahati, India - August 04, 2025 A worn-out school building suddenly came crashing down. Luckily, an elderly woman who happened to be passing nearby at the time of the collapse escaped unharmed, narrowly avoiding what could have been a tragic outcome. The incident took place at Chhota Bazar Primary School located, in Garhmukteshwar Kotwali area of Hapur district, in northern India's Uttar Pradesh, on August 4. Visuals show that the building came crashing down within moments, and a woman walking past was nearly caught beneath the falling debris. However, she miraculously survived. Following the collapse, locals quickly gathered at the scene, launched rescue efforts, pulled the injured woman from the rubble, and rushed her to the hospital for medical care. Speaking to Newslions, Neeraj Kumar, SHO Garhmukteshwar, Hapur District, Uttar Pradesh, stated that a government school building in a severely dilapidated state collapsed in the district. Reports indicate that a woman passing by sustained minor injuries after being struck by falling debris. The school had been closed earlier as a safety measure due to the building’s poor condition, and students had been relocated to a safer location some time ago. The collapse was recorded on nearby CCTV cameras. Following the incident, local residents have criticized the Basic Education Department for negligence, claiming that despite repeated complaints, no steps were taken to demolish the unsafe structure. This incident has sparked concerns and questions regarding the Basic Education Department’s lack of timely action. Locals insist that the neglected condition of the government school building, despite numerous warnings, directly contributed to this accident.
