PLANES FLYING IN SKY GAZA, PALESTINE - AUGUST 15, 2025: Hunger-stricken Palestinians in Gaza rushed to receive a limited amount of food from airdropped aid parcels on Friday, Aug. 15. The supplies were parachuted over Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza, with two packages captured on camera landing without their parachutes, crashing to the ground where Palestinians had gathered to receive aid. The hunger crisis has spiraled into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe. The Government Media Office in Gaza reports that 1.2 million children face “severe food insecurity,” and at least 239 Palestinians, including 106 children, have died from starvation since October 2023. Gaza’s Health Ministry said in a statement that four more people died of starvation and malnutrition in the last 24 hours. According to the ministry, 103 children have died from malnutrition since January, while 500 infants suffer from acute nutritional deficiencies. Over 28,000 cases of malnutrition have been recorded this year alone. The crisis deepened on March 2, when Israel sealed all crossings into the enclave, blocking humanitarian aid despite relief trucks waiting at the border. What little is allowed falls far short of the population’s needs. Over two million Palestinians have been displaced for nearly two years, crammed into shelters and tents where disease spreads quickly. The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued its genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, killing more than 61,800 Palestinians. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
