Limited aid supplies were parachuted over Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, but one package landed without its parachute, crashing violently to the ground where Palestinians were waiting to receive aid. A woman was seen gathering spilled flour by hand, her actions highlighting the harsh reality of life under inhumane Israeli siege as hunger tightens its grip across the enclave. Gaza’s Health Ministry on Firday reported the death of a young girl due to starvation and malnutrition, as famine continues to claim lives in Gaza amid a crippling Israeli blockade that has choked off food and medical supplies. The total number of starvation-related deaths now stands at 240, including 107 children. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, at least 23 people have been killed and 124 others injured by falling aid boxes since October 2023. The office said most packages have landed in areas under Israeli control or in neighborhoods forcibly emptied of residents, exposing anyone approaching them to the risk of being directly targeted. Previous drops, it added, have fallen into the sea, causing 13 drownings last year, or into crowded gatherings, making them both dangerous and ineffective. Palestinian officials and humanitarian groups say the method is far less effective than land deliveries and has caused chaos, damage, and deaths. Israel’s siege on the enclave, which intensified in March with the closure of all crossings, has plunged Gaza’s 2.4 million residents into a deep humanitarian crisis marked by famine, disease, and the collapse of basic services. The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued its genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, killing more than 61,800 Palestinians. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the enclave.
