Iran: Entrepreneur Attempts Suicide at Tehran Metro Over Financial Blockade
Tehran, Iran - August 17, 2025 Yesterday, a man attempted suicide at Tehran’s Hafte Tir subway station by trying to jump under a train and setting himself on fire. The incident reportedly stemmed from severe financial distress after he was fired from his job and his accounts were blocked. In a banner he carried, the man identified himself as an entrepreneur and food producer. It read: “I am an entrepreneur and food producer. I created a new product that was widely accepted, especially by teenagers and young people. But the authority blocked our accounts for 18 months, for no clear reason, pushing us into the abyss.”
