VENISSIEUX, FRANCE - AUGUST 18 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT "BEN MOUSSA FARID VIA FACEBOOK” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY— A powerful explosion rocked a seven-story building in the Minguettes district of Venissieux shortly before dawn on Monday, August 18, killing one person and injuring several others. Authorities said the blast, which occurred in a fourth-floor apartment, was likely accidental and linked to a gas cylinder.
Emergency services mounted a large-scale response, with about 90 firefighters and 40 vehicles deployed to put out the fire and clear debris. Eighteen people received treatment at the scene, while nine others were taken to hospital for further medical checks.
The blast caused severe damage to the building, forcing residents to evacuate. Cleanup operations are under way, and temporary housing is being arranged for those displaced by the explosion.
