Police raid factory manufacturing fake sauce and coffee products in Bangkok
Police raided a factory manufacturing thousands of fake sauce and coffee products disguised as well-known brands in Bangkok.
Officers swept into the facility in Pathum Thani just north of the capital city on Friday, amid investigations into substandard sauces flooding local markets.
They found that the factory operated in crude and filthy conditions, with the sauces stored in unhygienic blue vats before being hand-filled into bottles. The unsanitary production process posed serious health risks to consumers, they said.
Two suspects identified as Thai woman Nattakan, 35, and Lao woman Wan, 55, were arrested, while more than 75,000 counterfeit goods, including soy sauces, instant coffee, seasonings, and production equipment, were seized from three sites across Bangkok and Pathum Thani.
Police said the raid followed investigations into a local supplier allegedly selling fake sauces at a market in the Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao province.
Investigators tracked the delivery van making weekly drop-offs, which led them to Wan's rented room in Bangkok.
They found boxes of fake products in the premises. During questioning, Wan said she purchased the goods from Nattakan through online orders.
Officers then raided the factory in Thanyaburi district in Pathum Thani, where the operation was dismantled.
Both women allegedly confessed to charges of trademark counterfeiting, distributing fake products, and producing counterfeit food. They were handed over to the Technology Crime Suppression Division for further legal proceedings.
