Agricultural Tractor with Water Tank Helps Neighbors Fight Wildfire Near Sarria on the Camino de Santiago

While driving from Murcia to Sarria to enjoy a few days and walk a stage of the famous French Way of the Camino de Santiago, I unexpectedly encountered a wildfire close to Sarria, in Galicia, Spain. The fire broke out near the road, filling the sky with smoke and flames dangerously close to the surrounding vegetation and rural houses. What made the scene especially striking was the quick reaction of the local community: instead of waiting passively for emergency services, neighbors immediately mobilized their own resources to stop the spread of the fire.

One of the most remarkable moments I captured on video was when locals brought out an agricultural tractor carrying a large water tank, turning it into an improvised fire truck. With determination and teamwork, they used the tractor and cistern to spray water directly onto the flames, doing everything possible to protect their land, crops, and homes. Their bravery and solidarity reflect the resilience and community spirit often found in rural Galicia, especially along the Camino de Santiago.

This video highlights both the dangers of wildfires in northern Spain and the extraordinary courage of ordinary people when faced with emergencies. The scene near Sarria, a town well known to pilgrims walking the French Way, is a powerful reminder of how quickly nature and community can intersect. The Camino de Santiago is not only a spiritual and cultural journey but also a landscape where real-life challenges unfold, and this fire shows how local people rise together in the face of danger.
