This is the terrifying moment a wildfire raged alongside roads as crews battled intense flames in Turkey.

Footage shows a massive blaze tearing through vegetation, turning the surroundings into a hellish red glow as smoke and fire blanketed the area in Gelibolu on August 17.

The General Directorate of Forestry said: 'On a night tinged with red in Gelibolu. We are fighting for Green Homeland with effort, diligence, and faith. We are working day and night to bring the flames under control as soon as possible.'

Local media reported that the wildfire broke out on Saturday in Turkey's northwestern Canakkale province and quickly spread through the hills near the town of Gelibolu.

More than 250 residents were evacuated from at least five nearby villages as a precaution.

Environmental experts warn that climate change, caused by the burning of fossil fuels, is making such extreme weather events more frequent and more intense.
