3. DRONE SHOT OF AFTERMATH OF STRIKE UKRAINE - RELEASED ON AUG. 21 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT "RUSSIAN DEFENCE MINISTRY" HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO - EDITORIAL USE ONLY: The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed on Thursday, Aug. 21, that it had struck temporary deployment sites of the 24th and 144th Ukrainian Mechanized Brigades, including a UAV depot near Kostyantynivka in Donetsk and Hremiach in Chernihiv.
According to the ministry, the strikes, carried out with FAB-3000 and FAB-500 bombs, destroyed the targets.
The strike comes amid intense diplomatic efforts by US President Donald Trump to mediate a settlement for the nearly 3 1/2-year long Russia-Ukraine war.
These efforts included a key summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, and the subsequent meeting in the Oval Office on Monday between Trump, Zelenskyy, and European leaders.
Russia started its "special military operation" on Feb. 24, 2022 and claimed that it is aimed at protecting people in the eastern region of Ukraine.
