This is the dramatic moment firemen rescued a kitten stranded in a sewer.

A concerned passerby heard faint meows coming from a drainage system in Manila, the Philippines.

The worried local immediately alerted the Bureau of Fire Protection Special Rescue Force to help rescue the hapless feline on the evening of August 18.

Footage shows two officials lifting the heavy metal lid and shining a light into the hole.

One of them then clambered down and searched for the cat, but it was nowhere to be found.

The team continued their search, inspecting another manhole before finally locating the animal.

Moments later, they placed the kitten inside a pink pet carrier.

In another clip, the visibly weak tabby can be seen curled up, sleeping from exhaustion.

Rescuer Jayson Dela Cruz said: 'The cat was okay and unharmed. It is currently recovering, and we are looking for its forever home.'
