Children play in flooded streets during typhoon in the Philippines
This is the amusing moment a group of children was spotted playing in flooded streets during a typhoon in the Philippines.
Footage captured by Jerome Ducos shows the youngsters rallying a volleyball in the flowing, muddy waters amid a light drizzle in Olongapo, Zambales on July 23.
Jerome said: 'In the midst of the typhoon, our town was flooded, and people were evacuating, while the children were playing volleyball. They seemed to be unaware of the danger.'
Typhoon Co-may, locally known as Emong, made landfall over Agno in Pangasinan at 10:40 pm on Thursday, July 24, bringing maximum sustained winds of up to 120 km/h and gusts reaching 165 km/h.
Co-may made its second landfall in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, at 5:10 am on Friday. It was the strongest tropical cyclone to hit this region of the Philippines in 16 years.
The Philippines and neighbouring Southeast Asian countries are entering their annual monsoon season, marked by soaring temperatures followed by intense rainstorms.
The region's low-lying geography, inadequate drainage systems, and rapid urbanisation make it especially vulnerable to flooding.
Limited infrastructure often struggles to handle the heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread flash floods.
