Mukilteo, United States - August 20, 2025 Employees at the Mukilteo ferry terminal have welcomed an unexpected visitor: an American Mink affectionately named Melvin. The small, slender brown mammal, featuring a long tail and white markings on its chin, has been seen near the employee stairwell and along the terminal walkways. Video footage captured by employee Baylee Lane offers a close-up view of Melvin exploring the area. Native to the region, American Minks are excellent swimmers and skilled hunters. Despite their cute appearance, they are carnivores that primarily feed on fish and small mammals, making the waters around the Mukilteo terminal an ideal hunting ground. Washington State Ferries reminded the public to keep wildlife wild: do not approach, feed, or touch animals observed at the terminals.
