Gangsters in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats attacked the Police and Anti Gang Group, People Against Gangsterism & Drugs during a peaceful community march. The march started peacefully but soon after gangsters pelted the police with bottles and stones. Police retaliated with non lethal fire and flash bangs.
A number of arrests were made by the Public order Police unit.

According to PAGAD, they were requested to march in the area after a number of murders including that of a three month old baby. Bonteheuwel was established by the apartheid government in the 1960's under the group areas act. Areas like Bonteheuwel in Cape Town are plagued by high unemployment, drug abuse and gang violence. In the last 24 hours five alleged gang related murders took place.
