EVERSON, Wash. — A man was rescued Friday afternoon after becoming stranded on a log jam while inner tubing on the Nooksack River, officials said.

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. Aug. 22 near the 6200 block of Lawrence Road. The Everson/Sumas Police Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team responded with mutual aid partners and brought the man, who was wearing a life jacket, onto a rescue boat before transporting him safely to shore.

Personnel from Whatcom County Fire District 1 evaluated the man, who was not injured. Authorities said the incident underscored the dangers of river recreation and the importance of wearing life jackets, avoiding log jams and checking water conditions.

The Everson/Sumas Police Department thanked Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Fire District 1 and Whatcom County Search and Rescue for their teamwork in the successful rescue.
