This is the moment surfers ride waves during the onslaught of Hurricane Erin in New Jersey.

Footage captured by Cristopher Cace shows sea riders battling turbulent waves beneath heavy, overcast skies at the Manasquan Inlet on August 21.

The National Hurricane Centre reported that Erin continues to generate dangerous surf and rip currents along the East Coast, with these conditions expected to last for several days.

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in New Jersey and urged people to stay clear of the water on Thursday and Friday due to dangerous rip currents caused by the hurricane.

Coastal flood advisories remain in effect until 2 am on Saturday.

The Category 2 storm has already swept through parts of the Caribbean, soaking Puerto Rico with heavy rain and leaving more than 50,000 utility customers without power.
