Missing British tourist found covered in blood in Thai 'Sin City' Pattaya
A missing British tourist was found covered in blood in Thai 'Sin City' Pattaya.
James Murphy, 64, from Kirkcaldy in Fife, Scotland, sparked fears for his safety when he visited Thailand before disappearing in April.
His concerned family contacted the British Embassy in Bangkok but they unable find the holidaymaker.
James, known to friends as Jimmy, was finally found in a pool of blood with wounds on his neck and wrists outside a hotel in the notorious coastal city on Saturday night.
Paramedics took the Brit to the local hospital where he has been recovering.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Saijai Kamjulla said: 'We have not been contacted by the family. There are no charges against the tourist, he will stay in hospital and we will visit him to understand his situation.'
Officers said that hotel staff found James in the dining room of Avani Pattaya Resort on August 23.
Paramedics received a report at 9pm of a foreigner harming himself before arriving. They administered first aid before transporting him to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Hotel staff said that James had previously been a guest but had already checked out before returning that day for a drink.
He suddenly smashed a beer bottle on the floor and used it to slice his neck and wrists.
An employee called colleagues to assist him and contacted rescuers for support.
Police later arrived to take photos as evidence and to investigate the cause of the incident.
Murphy was an uncle of Becky Murphy and had moved to Pattaya in October 2024.
Becky said that he was mentally ill but not aggressive, and he always appeared the same way.
She mentioned that Murphy had sufficient funds and was not homeless.
Local police checked his bank to trace where he had been staying and received the latest update in May.
Jame's niece Becky said his family last had contact with him in April, while locals last saw him around June or earlier.
Becky said: ‘Locals had been telling us they had seen around, but there were no reports of him since June, maybe earlier.
‘I don't have much update due to me being in Scotland and not in Thailand, while the embassy and consulate are aware.
‘The consulate and embassy are useless. They haven't done much.
‘Someone said in June that he was at Honey House 3 hotel, but he's moved a lot since he went there.
'I think he has enough money. But he doesn't have his passport, it's still with a visa agent.
‘He's bipolar, hasn't ever been medicated for it. In April he was hospitalised for cannabis psychosis.'
