Plane overshoots runway crashing into fence and injuring pilots
A plane overshot the runway before crashing into a fence and injuring the pilot today in Indonesia.
The Cessna Grand Caravan landed at the remote Aminggaru Airport in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, on Monday morning.
But the light aircraft veered off the runway and smashed into a fence post before bursting into flames.
Officials said the pilot and technician alongside him escaped the inferno with minor injuries. The Amole Air jet was carrying cargo at the time with no passengers on board.
Puncak Police Chief Mardi Marpaung said: 'The plane departed from Mozes Kilangin Airport in Timika carrying light steel materials for construction.
'The two crew members managed to jump out of the aircraft and were rescued with only minor injuries. There were no other victims.'
Police said the plane landed smoothly but then overshot the runway. Pilot Andi Rezhar and technician Amianus suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officials are now investigating the cause of the crash.
