Tianjin Port in north China has evolved into a major hub facilitating connectivity between Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states by land and sea, with port operations benefiting from smart, green technology upgrades. Goods from Tianjin are shipped to more than 500 ports in about 180 countries and regions. At a control center in the port, dispatchers can remotely control container operations using walkie-talkies and computers. The Tianjin Port, which boasts the world's first smart, zero-carbon terminal, has achieved full intelligent operation across all its container handling operations. The port has 360 electric container trucks and 132 intelligent transport robots, which help cut around 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Following the Tianjin Port model, a new generation of near-zero-carbon ports are emerging across China. With a plan to build a group of world-class smart, green ports by 2027, China is on track to lead the world in port innovation and sustainability.
