Storyline: China, Spain add direct flights amid surge in summer travel demand [Voice_over] Spain and China are making visiting each other's countries, easier, with an increase in the number of direct flights this summer. Chinese tourists who visit Spain's largest cities, Barcelona and Madrid, say the direct flights and streamlined visa policies have made their journeys even more enjoyable. [Sound_bite] Chinese tourist: "I came to Spain to explore unique local cultures, including Flamenco and bullfighting. I also want to savor its delicious cuisine." [Voice_over] Chinese airline officials say there are 61 direct flights per week between China and Spain, nearly double the number than 2019. There are 35 percent more seats on flights this year compared to last, ranking number one in most seats between China and a European country. [Sound_bite] Zhang Yinghui, general manager, Air China's Madrid sales office: "During this summer, Air China operates 27 direct flights between China and Spain per week. Compared to the same period last year, Air China has increased its overall capacity by 150 percent for this summer." [Voice_over] According to the Spanish tourism board, Spain welcomed over 647,000 Chinese tourists last year, a 66 percent increase from 2023. This year that number is expected to be even bigger.
