This is the shocking moment cyclists crashed in a mass pile-up during a race in China.

Multiple collisions occurred during the 225 Merida Cup National Bicycle Competition of Good Luck Shandong in Dezhou on August 24.

Footage shows riders packed closely together with little room to manoeuvre, causing several to smash into one another.

Some cyclists tumbled to the ground while others swerved to avoid hitting them.

In another clip, three participants lost balance while changing lanes and fell off their bicycles, prompting startled riders to shout warnings for others to keep their distance.

More than 850 cyclists reportedly joined the event, which began at the south gate of Dezhou Solar Town and covered a 16-kilometre course.
