SHOTLIST: GAZA, PALESTINE (AUG. 22, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF HEAVILY INJURED YOUNG PALESTINIAN WOMAN, BERA ABU ZAID, CRYING AND MOURNING FOR HER CHILDREN KILLED IN ISRAELI STRIKE 2. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) HEAVILY INJURED YOUNG PALESTINIAN WOMAN, BERA ABU ZAID, SPEAKING TO REPORTER, SAYING: "I am Bera Abu Zaid, 28 years old. I lost my four children — all of them are gone. On Aug. 7, I was supposed to celebrate a birthday with my children, but instead I was left with their absence. I can no longer bear the pain of their loss or the hardship of their separation. The first strike killed three of them, and today Ubaid was martyred. May God have mercy on him, my beloved, the light of my eyes. Ubaid, you were my hope in this life. My children were my whole life, and now they are gone. I cannot move, I cannot do anything. Ubaid was 13, Abbud was 11, Hamza was 8, and Bana was only 4. We were in Khan Younis, in the camp. Was it safe? No, there was no safety. They targeted the children while they were sleeping beside me. They were hungry, waiting for the morning to eat. My son had placed a piece of bread under his head and said, ‘Mama, I will eat this in the morning.’ But they killed him before he could. My children wanted food; they longed for fruit, but there was nothing. My little daughter was sick, and I could not treat her. My hand is in so much pain, my leg is wounded, and every day I am in unbearable pain. The doctors say my arm may have to be amputated. [...] I swear by Allah, losing four children is a burden no heart can carry. I have no strength left. Oh Allah, grant me patience." 3. HEAVILY INJURED BERA ABU ZAID MOURNING OVER HER KILLED CHILDREN (TWO SHOTS)GAZA, PALESTINE - AUG. 22, 2025: A young Palestinian mother is enduring unbearable grief after losing her four children in an Israeli strike on the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. Bera Abu Zaid, 28, who herself was critically injured in the attack, is struggling with both physical pain and profound emotional anguish. Bera’s tragedy unfolded on Aug. 7, when Israeli forces struck the tent where she and her family had sought shelter. Her children – Abbud, 11, Hamza, 8, and Bana, 4 – were killed instantly. Her eldest son, Ubaid, 13, later succumbed to his injuries at Nasser Hospital. “I swear by Allah, losing four children is a burden no heart can carry. I have no strength left. Oh Allah, grant me patience," she cried. The bereaved mother said her deepest sorrow was that her children died hungry. “They were hungry, waiting for the morning to eat. My son had placed a piece of bread under his head and said, ‘Mama, I will eat this in the morning.’ But they killed him before he could.” Suffering severe injuries to her arm, leg, and skull, Bera is receiving treatment at Nasser Hospital under extremely limited medical conditions. She undergoes minor procedures daily, but due to infections, her arm is at risk of being amputated. Israel’s full blockade of the Gaza Strip, in place since early March, has created catastrophic conditions for the enclave’s 2.4 million residents, leading to famine, widespread disease, and the collapse of essential services. Israel has killed more than 62,700 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
