Gaza hospital strike sparks outcry as journalists, rescuers vow to continue
Storyline: Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza on Monday killed at least 20 people, including five journalists, sparking outrage among witnesses who vowed to keep rescuing the injured and reporting the truth despite mounting fear. Gaza-based health authorities confirmed the toll in a press statement, identifying the victims as at least 20 Palestinians, including five journalists. As fear and grief gripped the hospital’s shattered corridors, those inside described a growing sense of dread and helplessness. "Fear is always present, but today it has grown even stronger. We can't go near the doors or step outside, fearing another strike. There is no safety here. We have been bombed before, even in past months," said Muhannad Masoud, a Palestinian doctor. Among the dead were journalists whose colleagues now mourn not only their loss, but the silencing of vital voices amid the war. "What happened today inside Nasser Hospital was a horrific massacre of journalists. We are talking about five colleagues killed by Israeli shelling, in addition to several injuries, some of them critical and still in the operating rooms," said Ibrahim Qanan, a Palestinian journalist. Yamen Abu Suleiman, director of Civil Defense in Khan Younis, recalled how rescuers were also targeted while trying to save the wounded. "When medical and civil defense teams rushed to rescue the wounded, the occupation targeted the site again without warning, causing more deaths, including civil defense staff. Everyone saw live on air how the rescue teams, whose only mission was to save the injured, were directly targeted," said Yamen Abu Suleiman. Ezzedine Al-Masry, brother of journalist Hossam Al-Masry who was among those killed, expressed his indignation and vowed to keep exposing the truth to the world. "Hossam's camera will not stop, nor will those of Mohammed Salama or Moaz. We will remain here at Nasser Hospital, and our lenses will never go dark. We will not stop showing the truth. Those who were killed are not just numbers or statistics, they are messengers of truth, and we will continue their path," said Ezzedine Al-Masry. Shotlist: Gaza Strip - Aug 25, 2025: 1.
