Muna herself was left disabled by a spinal injury during the attack, only later discovering she was pregnant at the time. Now 35 and bedridden, she struggles to raise her surviving children in a tent among the rubble of their destroyed Gaza City home. Despite doctors warning that her pregnancy could endanger both her health and the baby, she refused to terminate it. Afraid that any movement might leave her permanently paralyzed, she limits her mobility while trying to care for her children. Muna sacrifices her own medication to feed her children. She says her greatest sorrow is being unable to provide medical care for her son, who has been suffering from a fever for days. Little Muaz, who lost his left eye and sustained burns to his hands and feet, voiced a simple wish: that his mother could receive treatment for her spine, and he for his eye. Israel’s full blockade of the Gaza Strip, in place since early March, has created catastrophic conditions for the enclave’s 2.4 million residents, leading to famine, widespread disease, and the collapse of essential services. Israel has killed more than 62,700 Palestinians in its ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Gulsen Topcu, Anas Zeyad Fteha // Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
