Locals rescued a couple from an overturned jeep that was swept away by a fast-flowing river in India.

Footage shows a group of brave villagers and police officers working together to pull the pair to safety from the Jawai River in Sumerpur, Rajasthan.

The group also used a rope to secure the vehicle and bring it to the riverbank on August 25. They were brought to safety unharmed.

Officials have urged motorists not to cross flooded roads or rivers, warning of dangerous currents and sudden surges.

Authorities said on Monday that heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has left 11 dead and two missing in Rajasthan.

Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, said: 'The monsoon had been inactive for the past two weeks. With the trough line returning to its normal position, the monsoon became active again.

'A cyclonic system over the Madhya Pradesh–Rajasthan border remained stationary, leading to heavy rainfall in the southeastern parts of Rajasthan.'
