Heavy rains have unleashed widespread destruction across Himachal Pradesh, with Kullu district witnessing the worst damage. The flooded Beas River washed away several stretches of the Chandigarh–Manali highway between Kullu and Manali on the intervening night of August 25 and 26. Hotels and restaurants along the riverbanks have also suffered heavy damage.

Across the region, farmlands, houses, vehicles, and public infrastructure have been severely affected. Landslides and flash floods have triggered panic in the Tirthan Valley, leaving roads blocked, homes collapsed, and fields swept away. Power supply has been disrupted in many areas, and movement of traffic remains paralyzed.

The disaster has also raised concerns for tourism units along the riverbanks, some of which are now at risk of being washed away. Recently installed temporary bridges have also collapsed in the floods. Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported so far.

The weather department has issued a red alert, prompting closure of all educational institutions on Tuesday across several districts including Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, Una, Shimla, and Bilaspur. Authorities continue to assess the damage while rescue and restoration efforts are underway.
