BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. — A man attempting to bond out a friend at the Bryan County Jail ended up arrested himself after bringing marijuana and a firearm into the lobby, authorities said.

The incident happened last week when the man arrived with suitcases and a duffle bag that deputies said reeked of marijuana. After moving the bags back outside, K9 Vasko alerted to the duffle, which contained a felony amount of marijuana and a firearm.

Instead of leaving with his friend, the man was charged with two counts of crossing guard lines with illegal narcotics and a firearm, felony possession of marijuana over an ounce, and felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The sheriff’s office reminded the public that bringing contraband into the jail is not only illegal but also a surefire way to land behind bars.
