Heavy rain battered villages in northern Thailand as Typhoon Kajiki left the region submerged.

The storm dumped torrential downpours that swamped homes, roads, and farmland in Phrae province near the border with Laos on August 26.

Footage shows the deluge surging through neighbourhood streets as rescue workers evacuated stranded villagers.

Irrigation canals overflowed and caused traffic congestion.

Disaster prevention teams were deployed to pump out floodwater as officials warned locals in low-lying areas to be ready to evacuate if water levels rise further.

Typhoon Kajiki earlier battered Vietnam killing three and injuring at least 13 others.

The Thai Meteorological Agency said Kajiki was downgraded into a tropical storm after entering central Laos on Tuesday morning.

Flood warnings were issued across Thailand's north and northeastern regions as the northern weather office warned of heavy rain and possible gale-force winds until Wednesday.
