US, Phoenix: Glendale Fleeing Suspect in Honda Civic Stopped by Phoenix Police Grappler
Phoenix, United States - August 26, 2025 08/26/2025 03:30 am GMT-0700 GLENDALE, Ariz. – Phoenix police officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a red Honda Civic near the Camelback Road and I-17 area around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday. The driver refused to yield, and felony flight was established. Patrol units requested assistance from Phoenix Police Tactical Support Bureau resources as well as the Phoenix Police Air Unit. The air unit located the vehicle shortly thereafter. With the helicopter overhead, a tactical surveillance operation was initiated. Ground units followed at a distance, out of the suspect's line of sight, while the Air Unit tracked the suspect from above. The suspect led officers north on surface streets, staying near the I-17. The suspect then fled south on I-17 from Glendale Avenue, eventually exiting the 17 at Thomas Road. From there, the suspect traveled north on 27th Avenue, west on Indian School Road, and then entered northwest Grand Avenue. Tactical Support Bureau units converged on the suspect near 53rd Avenue and Grand Avenue in the City of Glendale. A TSB unit approached the suspect from behind and deployed a Grappler Police Bumper. The Grappler successfully brought the suspect's vehicle to an abrupt stop. TSB units surrounded the vehicle and established a high-risk traffic stop. Northwest Grand Avenue was shut down at 51st Avenue while officers contacted the suspect. Officers issued several commands to the suspect, but the suspect refused to comply. A less lethal 37mm projectile was used to breach the suspect's driver's side window after multiple commands were ignored. The suspect was observed reaching around within the vehicle while refusing to comply with officers' commands. Officers ordered the suspect to stop reaching, but the suspect refused to comply. A Phoenix Police K-9 was deployed, resulting in the suspect being bitten. Officers quickly moved in, taking the suspect into custody. The Glendale Fire Department responded to the scene to evaluate the suspect for bite injuries from the police K-9. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment and will later be released into Phoenix police custody. He faces multiple charges, including felony flight and resisting arrest.
