IDF and Shin Bet Eliminate Senior Hamas Security Commander in Gaza
Gaza On August 22, 2025, an Israeli Air Force strike, guided by intelligence from the IDF and Shin Bet, killed Mahmoud Al-Asoud, the commander of the Hamas General Security Mechanism in western Gaza. Al-Asoud had long served as a central figure within the organization, holding significant operational knowledge. In northern Gaza, Division 162 forces continue to operate in Jabaliya and the outskirts of Gaza City, destroying military infrastructure and neutralizing fighters. Meanwhile, Division 99 targeted and destroyed several observation posts posing a threat to Israeli forces. In Khan Younis, Division 36, alongside the Air Force, eliminated several fighters and struck military sites above and below ground. Additionally, an Air Force aircraft, directed by the Navy, hit a warehouse storing naval weapons and a repair facility for maritime equipment.
