This is the shocking moment bungling officials caused an old house to collapse from their weight - sending a wardrobe crashing onto a pensioner's head.

The local governor led council workers on a self-promoting tour, handing out bags of rice to elderly residents in Chonburi, Thailand, on Tuesday.

They piled into one wooden home, complete with a cameraman, while recording themselves doing the good deed as part of a publicity drive.

But the weight of all the pen-pushers caused the foundations of the ageing home to give way.

Footage shows how Jareang Phiw-on, 85, and her daughter Saengdao Poonpanich, 65, crashed to the ground.

A huge wooden wardrobe then toppled over onto her head.

Jareang, who was not seriously hurt, said: 'I don't want them coming here again if that's the kind of service they bring.

'They'd be better to leave me alone. That wardrobe could have killed me.'

Chonburi Governor Thawatchai Srithong said the council would pay for the cost of repairing the pensioner's home.

He said: 'There were 15 people sitting in the room. We didn't realise how old the wood was, so unfortunately the home collapsed.'
