On August 20, 2025, in Yukon Flats, Alaska, USA, @backcountry.alaska shared a video capturing a striking memory from a flight over the Brooks Range, where the wreckage of a “flying boxcar” still lies in the flats. On January 16, 1965, an Interior Airways C-82 (registration N208M) was returning to Fairbanks from northern Alaska when it suffered engine trouble and was forced down near Beaver in the Yukon Flats, about 100 miles north of Fairbanks. The crew survived, but the aircraft was abandoned, and for decades the wreck remained largely unknown to wreck-hunters until recently coming to light. Today, the remains still rest quietly in the wilderness, a forgotten piece of aviation history.
