China: Chinese UN peacekeepers to join V-Day parade in Beijing
A formation of Chinese peacekeepers to U.N. peacekeeping missions will take part in the upcoming grand military parade in Beijing's Tian'anmen Square on September 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, showcasing China's firm commitment as a major country to safeguarding world peace. The peacekeepers participating in the parade come from units across the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) that have undertaken United Nations peacekeeping missions. Their footprints stretch across mission areas including South Sudan, Lebanon, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mali, among others. With their youth and dedication, they have faithfully served in the peacekeeping forces, fulfilling China's solemn commitment to safeguarding global peace. "The peacekeepers formation's participation in the parade is a solemn commemoration of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, as well as a demonstration of China's commitment to fulfilling its obligations as a major country and safeguard world peace. As representatives of the peacekeeping forces, we must bear in mind our lofty mission, train diligently, hone every detail, and display the spirit of China's blue berets and convey China's firm resolve to cherish and defend peace with first-class standards and a solid style," said Army Colonel Zuo Song, commander of the peacekeepers formation to the V-day parade parade. China's armed forces have been actively engaged in U.N. peacekeeping since 1990. Over the past 35 years, more than 50,000 Chinese peacekeepers have served in over 20 countries and regions, making the 'blue berets" from China a vital force in U.N. peacekeeping operations. Now marching from international mission zones onto the parade ground, the peacekeepers formation will represent all Chinese peacekeepers serving overseas, standing ready to be reviewed by the motherland and the people. "As inheritors of the spirit of China's revolution, we will soon march through the Tian'anmen Square and be reviewed by the Party and the people. We must present ourselves in the most high-spirited posture to honor the martyrs, to display the new image of China's armed forces in the new era, and, more significantly, to carry forward the fighting spirit of our revolutionary predecessors and make our own contribution to building a strong military," said Qin Qingxin, a member of the peacekeepers formation.
