6. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DISPLACED PALESTINIAN WOMAN, FALASTEEN BAHEER MUHAMMAD HALWA, SAYING:

"I am the citizen, Falasteen Basheer Muhammad Halwa, from Jabalia al-Balad. I was displaced from Jabalia al-Balad to the Khaldi area, and from there we were displaced again to an area that was bombed by war planes. We were living in the Halwa camp, and Israeli forces started bombing us, saying that we should go to the south. But we didn’t go to the south — we came to the Az-Zarqa area, which is originally our (destroyed) homes. We didn’t stay in Az-Zarqa for long. Suddenly, drones appeared and started firing at us at night. They dropped gas. We couldn’t breathe. Our children woke up in panic, screaming, and we were crying just to catch our breath. We are facing a health crisis. Our elderly people are suffering severely. We have patients with diabetes, and we’re all in crisis. We don’t want to go to the south. We were displaced from Az-Zarqa and came here to the beach. You know what it’s like to live by the sea — there’s fresh air, yes, and sun, and the sun’s rays are very important for our children. But there is no water, and no electricity. We appeal to all leaders, all authorities, all officials to urgently provide us with at least water. There is no clean water. The sweet (drinkable) water is six shekels per jerrycan, which is about two dollars. We can’t afford that daily. I’m a woman without a husband or young men to help me. I can’t even describe the emotions I feel. We have to walk five kilometers. I’m a woman, walking to the sea to fill a jerrycan of water just to wash a cup to drink from, or to clean for my children. My daughters’ hair is ruined. There’s no available water to wash. There’s no soap. There’s no water for cleaning. My daughter has three children, and she’s just lying there inside the tent. There are no diapers. We are calling on all the countries, all the Arab nations, to stand with us and provide us with the basics. Water is our most urgent need — drinking water, cleaning water. What we urgently need now is water for hygiene. I speak on behalf of myself and all those around me."

8. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DISPLACEDE PALESTINIAN, MOATAZZA WARDA, SAYING:
“I am Moataz Warda from the north, from Jabalya. We were living in Al-Aban, and everything was fine until they started bombing us — missiles and shells rained down. They told us to leave because we were in a red zone, a combat zone. I made the decision not to go to the south. I came here with my family and we were displaced to the western area of Gaza, near the sea. When we arrived, we found there’s no safety, no water, no food, no drinking water. When I go to get a jerrycan of water, it costs me 10 shekels. If I want to buy one, it’s eight or nine shekels. I can’t afford it. This family has 70 people. If you want to give everyone just drinking water — only water to drink — that’s a massive cost. And there’s no transportation, no money, no aid. We are in danger. We appeal to all countries, to everyone, to stand with us. We need food, we need water, and this war must stop. Every day there are 200, 300, even 400 martyrs. This is wrong. We appeal to all nations, to all the Islamic world, to support us. All countries must help us. We’re not asking for much — just basic things like drinking water and food for the children. This tent has 70 people in it, I swear — 70 of us sleep inside. We sleep on the ground. No mattresses, no blankets. The cold is killing us. We can’t bear it. This is now — what will happen in winter? It will kill us. The sea might flood us. We might die. If not from hunger, then from the cold. We are pleading with all the world’s countries to stand with us. We ask the organizations, we ask all Arabs, we ask the entire world to help us. We are exhausted. The people are tired. We need this to end. We need water. We need food. We need something to drink. We can't go on like this. Every family has a thousand needs. If someone wants to get even a little clean water — there is none. At night we sleep afraid, because bombing can hit us from the nearby positions. Our situation is difficult. We call on the whole world to help us. Thank you."

GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUGUST 27: A new wave of forced displacement is underway in northern Gaza City, with dozens of families fleeing their homes under intensified Israeli bombardment and evacuation orders, part of what the military describes as a plan to reoccupy the area.

Anadolu correspondents on the ground reported Wednesday that families from the Jabalia al-Nazla district were seen transporting their belongings on animal-drawn carts and on foot, moving towards western neighborhoods. The exodus follows a night of heavy airstrikes and artillery shelling that targeted the north.

Among those displaced is Moataz Abu Warda, now sheltering in a rudimentary tent near the coast. Abu Warda said the Israeli army dropped shells and paper leaflets, warning them to evacuate and declaring Jabalia al-Nazla a combat zone.

Abu Warda stated his family refused to move south and instead sought refuge in western Gaza, citing a pervasive lack of safety. He described a critical shortage of basic necessities, noting he is forced to pay over $2 for 16 liters of water transported from distant areas. He called for urgent international intervention to provide aid and stop the war on civilians.

Another displaced civilian, Falasteen Halawa from Jabalia al-Balad, recounted a harrowing escape. “We were living in the Halwa camp, and Israeli forces started bombing us, saying that we should go to the south,” she said.

Halawa reported that Israeli forces also deployed gas bombs, causing panic and exacerbating respiratory illnesses among children. Now living in a tent without access to food or clean water, she echoed calls for the world to stop the war.

The Israeli government, on August 8, approved a plan put forward by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to gradually reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, beginning with Gaza City.

The ongoing military campaign, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in a significant humanitarian catastrophe.

According to Palestinian health authorities, the offensive has killed 62,895 Palestinians and wounded 158,927, with the majority being children and women. Over 9,000 are missing, and hundreds of thousands are displaced.
