3. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) HOUTHI MILITARY SPOKESMAN, YAHYA SAREE SAYING:
“The international community's acknowledgment of the suffering endured by our brothers in Gaza – due to starvation, siege, and aggression – places a great religious and historical responsibility on the entire Arab and Islamic nation. It is a duty – religious, humanitarian, and moral – to act to end the famine, lift the siege, and stop the aggression on Gaza.”
SANAA, YEMEN (AUGUST 27, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “HOUTHI PRESS OFFICE” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO - EDITORIAL USE ONLY) - Yemen’s Houthi group announced on Wednesday that it had launched a ballistic missile attack targeting an airport in Israel, a claim that was met with an Israeli military statement saying the projectile was intercepted.
In a televised statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group’s armed forces targeted Ben Gurion Airport, also known as Lod Airport, near Tel Aviv using a "Palestine-2" hypersonic ballistic missile.
Saree described the operation as a response to "the genocide and starvation crimes committed by the Zionist enemy against our brothers in the Gaza Strip" and stated it successfully "caused millions of the Zionist occupiers to flee to shelters, and airport operations were suspended."
Earlier, the Israeli army issued a statement confirming a missile launch from Yemen.
"Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF (Israeli Air Force)," the statement read.
The missile attack triggered warning sirens in Jerusalem, surrounding communities, West Bank settlements, and towns in central Israel. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks and counterattacks between the two sides. Since November 2023, the Houthis have repeatedly launched missile and drone strikes toward Israel and targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, stating their actions are in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
The conflict has also escalated on Yemeni territory. On Sunday, Israeli warplanes bombed several sites in the Houthi-held capital Sanaa, including the presidential palace and power plants.
