According to a statement by the Egyptian presidency, Sisi received Salam and his accompanying delegation in Cairo, where they discussed bilateral ties and regional developments. Sisi stressed Egypt’s backing for Lebanon’s efforts to restore stability, achieve economic recovery, and embark on reconstruction, underlining the importance of international support to enable Lebanese state institutions to fulfill their national responsibilities. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said his government’s upcoming priorities include enhancing cooperation and integration with Arab countries, particularly Egypt. He added that preparations are underway to convene the 10th session of the Egypt-Lebanon Joint Higher Committee in Cairo later this year. It is Salam’s first trip to Egypt since he took office in January. It comes as Lebanon faces complex internal and regional challenges, including reconstruction efforts and the Israeli occupation in parts of the south. Egypt and Lebanon maintain strong trade ties. Egyptian exports to Lebanon reached about $736 million in 2023, including refined petroleum and reinforced steel, according to Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
