Hanoi, Vietnam - August 26, 2025 As Typhoon Kajiki submerged the city, residents were seen driving motorcycles through streets that had turned into rivers, creating surreal and unsettling scenes. Video filmed by Jennifer Evans shows people steering their motorcycles through deep, murky waters, engines half-submerged as they moved slowly against the current. The unusual sight of traffic continuing despite the floods captured the bizarre reality of life during the storm. The typhoon brought devastation across the region. At least three people lost their lives and 10 were injured. Nearly 7,000 homes were damaged, while 28,800 hectares of rice fields were inundated. The storm also brought down 18,000 trees, worsening the destruction and adding to the hazards for those navigating through the flood. West Lake spilled over into nearby neighborhoods, pushing even more water into residential areas where motorcycles continued to appear on submerged roads. The disaster struck as Hanoi was preparing for Vietnam’s National Day parade, amplifying the disruption and exposing the storm’s impact on the capital.
