This is the heartwarming moment rescuers saved a starving stray cat after its head became wedged inside a plastic snack can for several days in Thailand.

Animal welfare officers rushed to a home in Ang Thong province on August 27 after receiving reports of the distressed feline.

When they arrived, they found the exhausted grey-and-white cat, believed to be around two or three years old, perched on a fence.

The homeowner said the hapless moggy had been stuck for up to four days, unable to eat or drink.

Dramatic footage shows the officers carefully scooping the wary animal into a net before using pliers to cut the container from its head.

After being freed, the cat bolted from the scene.

Rescuer Chalermpol Insai said: 'When we first approached, the cat managed to escape because it could see through the transparent container. We asked the house owner, whom the cat was familiar with, to distract it so we could catch it safely with the net.'
