Flash floods covered a desert highway in California, turning the road into a rushing stream of water and debris.

Footage shows sections of the route and surrounding parts of the Mojave Desert submerged in floodwaters.

Authorities responded by closing State Route 247, south of Barstow, on August 26, after flash flooding rendered parts of the highway impassable and travel conditions hazardous.

The inundation was part of a wave of severe weather impacting the region, including a massive dust storm that swept through nearby Arizona on Monday.
