Storyline: The Orange Line Metro Train, built under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Pakistan's east Lahore city, has been making travel and life easier for local passengers. The Orange Line project, jointly constructed by China Railway Group Corporation and China North Industries Corporation, was put into operation on Oct 25, 2020. It is Pakistan's first-ever mass rapid urban transit train service. "So, it's a pretty much good project by the Chinese people and we are very happy and excited to work here. Every day is excited here," said Waseem Abbas, deputy manager of the sector station of the Orange Line. Chinese companies not only contributed to the construction but also provided operational training to staff, ensuring more attentive and professional passenger services. "In 2020 we received six months of training from Chinese professional and since then we are managing the operations under their superior. So, we have set the new standards in quality of service, passenger care and the operational excellence thanks to the management," said Zain Mehmood Rana, chief dispatcher of the operation control center of the Orange Line. An average of 200,000 people travel by Orange Line every day, which has 26 stations and covers a 27-km route, passing the areas where most middle-class people of the city live. The total passenger flow of the line has exceeded 260 million. "Since its launch for commercial operations in October 2020, the Orange Line subway project has been operating safely for nearly five years. The project has significantly improved travel convenience for residents along the line and stimulated the growth of nearby businesses," said Tan Zidong, Chinese director of the Orange Line subway project. Launched in 2013, the CPEC, a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, is a corridor linking the Gwadar Port in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan province with Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The CPEC involves energy, transport and industrial cooperation in the first phase, and expands to areas such as agriculture and livelihood in the new phase.
