Syria, Saudi firms sign agreements on energy, oil and gas cooperation

AFTER SIGNING, OFFICIALS MAKING STATEMENTS DAMASCUS, SYRIA - AUG. 28, 2025: Syria’s Ministry of Energy and Saudi Arabian companies signed an agreement and several memoranda of understanding covering cooperation in electricity, oil and natural gas, the official SANA news agency reported Thursday, Aug. 28.
The agreements include projects in power generation, transmission and distribution, geophysical and geological surveys, oilfield services, well drilling and maintenance, as well as other technical fields.
The two sides also agreed to cooperate in technical training, workforce development, and integrated solutions for the modern management and development of oil and gas fields.
Speaking to Anadolu, Energy Ministry spokesman Ahmed Suleiman said Syria signed an agreement with Saudi-based ACWA Power in the fields of water and renewable energy.
According to Suleiman, the projects will focus on wind and solar power, and are intended to serve the Syrian people. He added that further projects in energy, oil and mining sectors are expected to be launched within two to three years.
He noted that under the agreement, technical teams will soon begin field work and sites for wind and solar power plants will be designated.
