SHOTLIST GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE (AUGUST 28, 2025) (ANADOLU-ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF VEHICLES CARRYING PEOPLE AND THEIR BELONGINGS DRIVING ON DIRT ROAD IN DISPLACEMENT CAMP ON COAST GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUGUST 28: A new wave of forced displacement is underway in northern Gaza City as thousands of Palestinian families flee under intense Israeli bombardment and renewed evacuation orders, part of a military plan to reoccupy the area. Anadolu Agency correspondents on the ground reported on Thursday, Aug. 28, that active displacement movements are heading south from Gaza City and the northern enclave. This follows the Israeli army's escalation of airstrikes and its issuance of forced evacuation orders for residents in these areas. Dozens of families were seen leaving their homes on foot or using primitive vehicles under harsh humanitarian conditions, with limited access to food, water, or safe routes. The displacement is accompanied by widespread destruction of infrastructure, further compounding the suffering of those attempting to reach safer areas. Human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that such forced displacement policies may constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. The moves on the ground come after the Israeli Cabinet approved a plan to reoccupy Gaza City in a meeting, as confirmed by Defense Minister Israel Katz on Friday, Aug. 22. Reports indicate the plan envisions forcing nearly one million Palestinians southward, encircling Gaza City, and carrying out ground raids into residential districts. This follows a broader plan put forward by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and approved by the government on August 8 to gradually reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, beginning with its largest city. The ongoing military campaign, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in a severe humanitarian catastrophe. According to Palestinian health authorities, the Israeli offensive has so far killed nearly 63,000 Palestinians and wounded 158,927, with the majority of casualties being children and women. Over 9,000 people are reported missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes. Writing by Sibel Uygun
