Rescue dogs deployed to search for survivors from Typhoon Kajiki in Thailand
Rescue dogs were deployed to search for missing villagers buried in landslides that have killed six people in northern Thailand.
The K9 USAR THAILAND unit was dispatched to Chiang Mai on August 28 following landslides caused by Typhoon Kajiki. At least three residents remain missing.
Rescuers said they expected to reach the scene today, August 29, as they had to travel by land.
They said: 'This operation involves a highly trained rescue team and K9 dogs to search for missing persons in areas affected by natural disasters, including flash floods and landslides.
'The team is prepared to overcome various obstacles to bring hope back to families waiting for help.
'This operation is an important rescue and search mission, with the aim of providing timely and effective assistance to victims.'
Officials said six people have been killed and three were missing after Typhoon Kajiki triggered landslides in northern Thailand.
Vietnam has recently been battered by the storm, which made landfall on Monday, leaving at least seven people dead, one missing, and 34 others injured. Officials said more than 7,000 homes were damaged during the storm.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) said Kajiki had weakened into a low-pressure system over northern Thailand on Wednesday. Despite its dissipation, heavy rainfall was expected to continue in the region for at least two days.
